A pre-emptive work of fiction that expresses the filmmaker’s feelings about her marital relationship with her first husband. Shot on 16 mm film with no sync sound and only one audio track, with minimal possibilities for audio mixing. It was fun to create a bedroom set in the men’s dorm at FTII!

When Uma finally decides to reunite with her husband, her car breaks down. What follows is a series of attempts to meet her husband, which she finally does. But will she ever reunite with him?

Shot in 1992, “Batein” is a very personal story because it explores the dynamics of the relationship between siblings coloured by the complexities of the relationship between their parents. A dialogue exercise at FTII.
